Diabetes is a health condition associated with a dysfunctional insulin, characterized by high blood sugar. Diabetes is generally a chronic disorder, in which blood sugar levels are not maintained properly by the body, by either a lack of insulin, resistance to it, or both. Insulin is made in the pancreas to help transport glucose from the bloodstream to store it in liver and muscle cells. In diabetic patients, the pancreas doesn't make enough insulin, which results in a lack of storage of the glucose for energy later, as well as high blood sugar levels. Or, a diabetic's cells may not respond to insulin, and therefore not be able to store the energy. There are two main types of diabetes: Type 1 which can occur at any age, but is often diagnosed in childhood, in which the body makes very little or no insulin, so daily injections of insulin are necessary, and Type 2 which is a result of obesity, generally in adults, but is a growing issue in young adults and children. A flabbergasting 20 million Americans are inflicted with diabetes, and 40 million have pre-diabetes,which comes before Type 2 diabetes. Obesity and Type 2 diabetes are serious, life-threatening issues imposing serious risks on our generation. Symptoms include blurry vision, fatigue, hunger, and ultimate serious risks like eye problems and nerve damage. The difference between the two types of diabetes are as follows:
